The Lasting Impact of Absence

May 9th, 16th, 23rd, 30th & June 6th & 13th
12pm -1 pm ET (view in your time zone)

Join Dr. Ken Benau for an in-depth exploration into the lasting effects of caregiver “absence” on the developing child, and later as adults in psychotherapy. Others have remarked that “neglect is often neglected” in developmental research. The same can be said of psychotherapy with survivors of early relational trauma and attachment wounding. This course will highlight some of the subtler, chronic consequences of what never happened that should have, including the need to be seen, felt, known, and even celebrated for who we are.

Why This Course?

Understand the Research: Take a deep dive into the developmental research on early relational absence and explore some clinical applications of that research

Explore Cases In-Depth: Review five clinical case presentations, describing how Dr. Benau identified and worked therapeutically with the chronic effects of absence

Improve Clinical Work: Learn to identify how early developmental absence makes its presence known in adult psychotherapy, and consider different ways of working effectively with these phenomena
