With Elizabeth Warner, Ed.M. Psy.D.
Join Elizabeth Warner, Ed.M. Psy.D., for a brief introduction to Sensory Motor Arousal Regulation Treatment, or SMART. SMART is a bottom-up therapy that was developed for children and adolescents with complex trauma. Developmental Trauma Disorder as a descriptive diagnosis accounts for the extensive trauma histories and resulting pervasive dysregulation in children and youth. However, many adult clients with complex trauma (C-PTSD) experienced ongoing neglect and/or abuse in their early development have significant problems with emotional regulation, and unintegrated fragments of these experiences in their sensory systems, bodies, and pre-conscious minds. The developmental nature of these fragments can be addressed with this in mind.
What to Expect
Introduction to SMART: Hear the story of how SMART developed, including how the model grew out of the clinical evidence generated through viewing videotape of sessions with many children and therapists in diverse settings. Plus, understand the role of the specially designed SMART room.
Learn the Fundamentals: The fundamentals of the model will be illustrated through three conceptual images: SMART Spiral, SMART Regulation Map, and Developmental Hierarchy.
Explore Case Examples: Explore three case examples (a child, an adolescent, and an adult) that demonstrate the model, its successes, and how it can work as a complete treatment in some cases and compliment other modalities in other cases.
Participants that complete this course and its assessments are eligible for 1 Continuing Education (CE) credit hours for their participation.
