Shame, Absence, and Beyond

A Clinical Training and Education Group with Ken Benau, PhD

Join author & clinician Ken Benau for a five-week mentoring group focused on new ways of thinking about and working with psychotherapy patients. The group will have a particular emphasis on working with the chronic effects of traumatic, mind/body shame states, and the long-term effects of “absence” or early relational neglect.

During each group session, Dr. Benau will present for 15 minutes on a theme related to psychotherapy with shame states and/or the chronic effects of absence, as well as specific themes arising in previous sessions.  While not formal clinical consultation, the remaining 1 ¾ hours will be devoted to clinical and conceptual questions, as well as exploring ideas about case formulation and practice.  While participant presentations may not always pertain to the chronic effects of “shame” or “absence”, these will be of special interest.

What to Expect

This group is open to providers of all experience levels and modalities with at least some training in (and experience working with) trauma.

Expand Your Therapeutic Perspective: Learn from Dr. Benau's extensive experience with psychodynamic, experiential, somatic psychotherapy, with attachment, and emotion-focused approaches.

Engage in Thoughtful Clinical Dialogue: Participate in extended discussion of clinical questions, case formulation, and apply those concepts to your own cases.

Deepen Core Understanding: Learn more about an integrated therapy approach using shame, pride, absence and relational dynamics as a core pillar for better client attunement and understanding.

There will be five two-hour sessions starting Friday, March 6th. All sessions will be from 1pm to 3pm ET (view in your time zone).
