Bottom-Up Transformational Trauma Therapy with Dr. Frank Corrigan
VIew Upcoming TrainingsLearn the Clinical Application of DBR with Practical
Hands-On Instruction
Across three training levels, Dr. Frank Corrigan will introduce you to Deep Brain Reorienting, a trauma-focused modality that aims to access and process traumatic experience by tracking the original sequence of physiological responses that occurred when the deep brain was alerted to threat or attachment disruption.
You will learn core theories behind the modality while working in small practicum groups with other therapists to apply what you learn. Each training level introduces new concepts to deepen your understanding of the modality.
DBR Requirements & Prerequisites
DBR Training is designed for licensed mental health professionals with a minimum of two years’ post-qualification clinical experience and a background in trauma treatment. It is particularly suited for clinicians using body-based, somatic, or brain-based approaches.
Training is sequential with each level building on the previous. Prerequisite levels must be completed prior to registering for higher levels. If you registered in error, please contact us.
Each level includes didactic and live practicum components. Full, live attendance is mandatory. A minimum six-month integration period is required between participating in Level 2 and Level 3 training. Level 3 is intended for therapists actively using DBR with at least 20% of their caseload.
Training slots are limited due to high demand. Register only if you can attend all sessions live. Dates and times may vary by cohort.
Training Format & Overview
Each DBR training level includes didactic lectures, Q&A, and structured small-group practicum. Due to the experiential nature of the practicum, live attendance at all sessions is mandatory. Please review training dates and times carefully before registering.
Participants are placed in groups of three and rotate through the roles of Therapist, Client, and Observer. Each participant will complete at least one full rotation in each role, often more than once, throughout the training. This structure is considered essential for developing competence in DBR.
Learning Objectives for each level are available upon request. CE credit hours are offered for qualifying portions of the training upon completion of a training level.
Level 1: Introduction to DBR
Covers the origins and theoretical foundations of Deep Brain Reorienting, with a focus on the midbrain’s role in trauma processing and sequencing. This level introduces the core components of the DBR protocol.
Level 2:Â Attachment & Shock
Expands on midbrain mechanisms related to attachment pain and attachment shock. Participants gain a deeper understanding of how DBR facilitates healing by working with these underlying systems and shock sequences.
Level 3: Deep Wounding & Emotional Pain
Focuses on how trauma affects the deeper layers of the self. Emphasis is placed on core emotional responses. This level addresses how DBR works with the foundational emotional pain beneath dissociation or fragmentation, including PTSD and CPTSD.
More on Practicum
Each DBR training level includes essential small-group practicum to support skill acquisition and integration. Participants are assigned in groups of three, rotating through the roles of Therapist, Client, and Observer to ensure experiential learning from all perspectives.
Groups are assigned randomly; however, a participant list is shared to check for personal or professional conflicts before group assignment. Clear guidelines for each role are provided. When in the Client role, participants should be prepared to work on a topic or event of their choosing.
Each group will be supported by an experienced DBR-trained assistant. Dr. Corrigan will also circulate among groups to provide direct supervision and feedback.
While DBR is a non-invasive method, residual processing can occur. If support is needed during or after practicum, please speak with your group’s assistant.
Next Steps After Training
Upon completing a DBR training level, recordings will be available for participants on EEG Learn To receive Continuing Education (CE) credit, participants must complete the associated quizzes.
After Training, You Are Encouraged To:
- Practice & share DBR with family, friends, and colleagues.
- Begin integrating DBR into your clinical practice.
- Connect with peers through the EEGer & EEG Learn community.
- Participate in advanced courses to refine skills and deepen conceptual understanding.
- Join our monthly DBR consultation groups.
Learning Outcomes

Develop an understanding of the neuroanatomy & neurophysiology of threat & adversity response systems in the midbrain.

Track deep sequences of shock lingering in the brain, working with these sequences until full processing has occurred.Â

Identify and differentiate the main components of conflicted orienting patterns in the brain's relational connections.
